Why Private Sessions?

After practicing yoga a few times a week in a studio my practice fundamentally shifted when two things happened.

First, when I was pregnant with my youngest child and I couldn’t find a regular prenatal class I started booking a private sessions once a month, which continued after my daughter was born and I needed to take care of my post natal body. I was not in a place where I could confidently and safely push myself while practicing with pre-recorded materials. Through these private sessions I began to better understand the unique patterns and movement of my own body and how to find my way into each pose with more efficiency. Suddenly a simple half lift became an intentional and challenging movement instead of a sloppy waypoint in a Sun Salutation.

Second, when COVID closed everything my home practice became a crucial anchor point of my mental and physical health. While I occasionally practiced at home, when faced with my home practice as my only option I was so grateful for all the privates I had booked in the past. I was able to practice confidently without having someone guide me or double check my alignment because those one on one sessions provided me with foundational, personalized knowledge you cannot reliably get from a group class. As a result, my home practiced blossomed.

This confidence is what I bring to those who work with me.

The health benefits of yoga have been scientifically backed for years but yoga can be an intimidating practice and group classes can be a challenging environment. I aim to make it completely approachable. —-> Perhaps “woo” and spirituality isn’t your thing, but you desperately need to figure out how to help your brain calm the hell down. Perhaps you would love to start practicing, but a class where everyone already knows what downward dog, or pigeon pose, or Savanasna means feels terribly overwhelming. Or perhaps you have an established practice in group classes and want more, but don’t know how to bridge the gap into a joyful and beneficial home practice.

I got you.

We will collaborate to help move you forward in your yoga practice, whether that practice is just starting or moving to a new level.

About Erika.

Erika is a down to earth introvert who grew up in the midwest but has happily transplanted to Washington state. She loves podcasts, Irish Whiskey, and dropping the occasional 4 letter word. She is happiest when exploring new places with your husband and two children.

She started practicing yoga in 2009 as “the only exercise she liked enough to keep doing” but yoga quietly grew into the bedrock of her physical and mental health self care over the past 15 years.

The gray space where “woo” and science start to meet is a source of endless fascination as is the growing knowledge around the yoga neuroscience.

Erika received her 200hr teaching certification through Uplifted Yoga.
